Geodesign Project Manager

 

There will be opportunities to continue work with GoodLands, contingent on funding.

 

If an exceptional level of competency in leadership, data-driven decision making and organizational skills are demonstrated you may be asked to apply for the position of Chief Operating Officer.

 

 

Duties:

 

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall supervision of geodesign projects for GoodLands’ Diocesan Planning Initiative and Parcel Partners Program. The underlying focus of the Project Manager should be clear communication with the client and tech/design team ensuring projects are functional, aesthetically pleasing and provide good UX/UI for online components, and completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.

 

The project manager is expected to communicate with stakeholders and internal employees and volunteers through graphic and text media that they help create. GoodLands not only implements design projects, but the organization itself has been designed and uses graphics extensively for internal and external communications and analyses. The Project Manager is expected to operate under a certain degree of autonomy using the staff and resources allocated to them. The Project Manager is required to maintain strong relationships with each client and maintain community relationships for each project, meet project financial goals, and ensure the project team is providing high levels of service and satisfaction.

 

Working within a start-up environment requires flexibility, mental agility, and an intense dedication to our mission of integrating ecological design, GIS, and community involvement. As a non-profit we are currently working with a network of about 20 volunteers and expect to continue to build and maintain a large network of volunteers connected to the organization. Management of this alternative network of HR requires creative thinking and an ability to communicated tasks very clearly.

GIS Analyst

 

We are looking for a GIS Analyst to join GoodLands. This will be an excellent career opportunity for a GIS analyst who wants to creatively use their skills for high-impact environmental work.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Acquire, manage and analyze geospatial data, using workstation- and web-based GIS software and tools.

• Conduct geoprocessing tasks that include complex model building.

• Produce high-quality cartographic products for use in planning and communication materials.

• Review and ensure accuracy of data and maps for inclusion in reports and presentations.

• Data organization, backup, archiving and metadata maintenance.

•  Extensive work with 3D Scene tools and representations.

 

The candidate should have the ability to:

 

• Work with some of the following pieces of software, and have an interest in and ability to learn new software: ArcGIS Desktop (including ArcScene and analyst extensions), ArcGIS Pro, ESRI City Engine, ArcGlobe, Community Analyst tools, ESRI App Development, GoogleEarth Engine, GeoPlanner, ArcCatalog (including Modelbuilder and/or scripting).

• Work with ESRI and Google APIs.

• Manage data, maps, graphics and other materials.

• Work within and help develop organizational templates and data standards.

• Coordinate GIS functions and uses with other teams, agencies/jurisdictions, developers and the public.

• Make judgments about data quality.

• A Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geodesign, Environmental Management or related field (will consider applicants with other degrees with extensive GIS experience).

Web/GIS Developer/Data Analyst We are looking for a programmer/analyst to join GoodLands. This will be an excellent opportunity for an experienced programmer who wants to use their skills creatively for a good cause. At GoodLands we value high quality, reusable code and creative approaches to data acquisition and analysis. Responsibilities: • Gather and analyze data from a variety of sources, many of which may be noisy, and prepare this data for use in computational applications. • Integration of data and code with a variety of GIS software, visualization platforms, and Web/Mobile apps. • Specify, document, develop, test, debug, configure and deploy apps using Google, Macromedia, and ESRI APIs. • Work with GIS analysts and designers on developing complex data analysis strategies for analytic reports and visually-based programs. • Implement and use systems for shared access, version control, and backup/archiving of data and code. The candidate should have the ability to: • Work with an interdisciplinary team that includes designers, planners, and GIS professionals to develop a variety of reports, apps and application programs. Work within current protocols and assist with the development of organizational data standards. • Assist in the management of all GoodLands data. • Initiate action for resolution of code glitches and modify code as needed. • Think creatively to develop innovative software approaches to problems. • The candidate should be self-motivated and able to work independently, taking the lead when necessary and work with others across disciplines. Strong attention to detail will be needed to help develop and manage data sources. Solutions for data acquisition and management may require a combination of manual and automated approaches: the ideal candidate will not just be a programmer. We are seeking individuals with experience and expertise in landscape architecture, ecological design, and environmental planning. Excellent design abilities, scientific literacy, intellectual agility, and top-notch written and graphic communication skills are required. Responsibilities: • Applying practices, technical principles, and theories from computational landscape architecture, ecological design, low impact design (LID), SITES, xeriscape and water efficient systems, coastal restoration, and geospatial technologies to complete landscape design work. • Developing general cost estimates, conceptual plans, and sketches. • Recognizing deficiencies and potential problems contained in published designs and guidelines to initiate action for resolutions and modifications. • Working within and helping develop graphic templates and standards. • Ability to create solutions that will work on multiple sites by discriminating between broadly applicable and site-specific elements of designs. • Assisting in management of data, maps, graphics and other materials. • Creative thinking for prototype co-innovation. • Co-development of highly graphic planning documents and public education materials. • Ability to organize and run engaging and creative community meetings. • Ability to organize large amount of information and step beyond the landscape-based and site-specific requirements, to broader-scale planning and design concerns. They will be responsible for all payroll accounts, auditing, and reporting on an annual basis. Responsibilities: Monthly payroll. Prepare monthly balance sheets and cashflow. Work with auditors to ensure timely sign-off. Handling all financial queries. Ad hoc projects consistent with the role. Maintain a well ordered book-keeping and filing system. Assure compliance with accounting policies, procedures and controls. Requirements: Qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA (or equivalent diploma or international qualification). Comprehension in Excel and MS Office. Must have previous experience of Quickbooks. Good accuracy and attention to detail. Previous experience in a similar role.
